The Board’s recertification programme is established under section 41 of the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003 (the Act).
CPD is a critical component of the Board’s recertification programme and provides a mechanism for supporting your practice to develop throughout your career. CPD helps ensure the public receives the best possible chiropractic services from practitioners who continue to be competent and fit to practise.

You must meet the requirements of the recertification programme set out in the Board’s CPD Policy under section 41 of the Act. This requires you to complete the specified number of hours of continuing professional development (CPD) and peer contact activities specified for your profession over a two-year cycle. https://apc.chiropracticboard.org.nz/
CPD Recertification Programme Requirements
All chiropractors who hold a practising certificate must
- engage in at least 20 hours of CPD every year;
- ensure activities are varied;
- include an identified cultural or diversity responsiveness activity (one activity every two-years); and
- maintain detailed and verifiable CPD records in the Board’s online CPD Record.
CPD Activities
CPD activities must be relevant to the chiropractor scope of practice. chiropractors are expected to undertake a variety of CPD activity types which, where possible, include interaction with peers. Sharing and discussing issues and professional experiences with colleagues, provides valuable clinical and professional learning opportunities.
Reflection is a critical component of CPD. Reflecting on one’s practice creates greater awareness and insight into factors that can improve patient experiences and/or outcomes. It allows the chiropractor to critically evaluate their own professional experience.

The Board will oversee the audit of up to 20% of APC holders in each recertification cycle. Participants are selected at random from the Board’s database and may be notified at any time in the year following completion of the previous recertification cycle.
